The Dravenhearst Brides by Lindsay Barrett

The Dravenhearst Brides by Lindsay Barrett

This book was an addicting blend of paranormal/Gothic and historical romance in a unique setting. Its twists and turns took the novel into directions I never imagined. I was surprised where we ended up, but looking back, I realized I thoroughly enjoyed the ride and the destination.

While there is a lovely and emotional romance that develops between Margot and Merrick, the three generations of the Dravenhearst Brides really take center stage. The connections between these women are haunting and mysterious and become more overwhelming as secrets are revealed.

Each bride had a role that becomes apparent as the stories of their lives are told. I don’t want to give away too many details, because you need to read this for yourself. However I found myself feeling sympathy for Eleanor, rooting against Babette, and rallying for Margot. However, it took a long time for me to sort out my feelings, because so many pieces had to come together first.

In the beginning of the novel, I wished that we had Merrick’s POV, but then I realized the story was not really about him. This story belonged to the women, but Merrick sure plays a sexy supporting role. He was the right man to break cycles of trauma and provide the ending that makes this story tickle my historical romance sensibilities. I cannot function without an HEA.

I think this novel is really in a genre of its own. While some historical romance purists might find it too different than what they’re used to, I think this story would be a hit for a wider audience of romance (and non-romance) readers.

Note: Please check out the content warnings before reading this book. There would have been times in my life where this book would not have been a good fit for me.

I received this ebook as an ARC. This is my honest review.
